About Our Society

Brought to you by orchid people in and around the San Antonio Area

A group of 26 orchid lovers led by Tom King came together to establish Alamo Orchid Society.  In 1958 Alamo Orchid Society was the first in Texas to hold its first AOS sanctioned and judged show at Wolff & Marx department store in downtown San Antonio. Since then Alamo Orchid Society continues to hold annual Orchid shows at San Antonio's Botanical Gardens.  Our society works closely with the San Antonio Botanical Gardens selling plants, educating growers, and attracting new members. The growing talent of our society members is evident by our gorgeous orchid show displays.  At various times a year the Alamo Orchid Society holds annual auction of plants donated by our members to help raise funds for the society.  This is the society's main fundraiser.  Members of the Alamo Orchid Society range from novices to experienced growers; both young and tenured.  Currently our membership is $35 per household, what a bargain for the opportunity to learn about growing orchids and more importantly, to have fun with fellow orchid lovers.
